Rishikesh plant is located on the Haridwar-Joshimath highway on the periphery of Rishikesh Municipality in Uttaranchal State in the serenity of mountainous landscape on the bank of holy river Ganges. It is spread over 834 acres of land (3.38 million sq. mts) and is well connected with road, rail and air. The scenario offers greenery, calmness and non-polluted air. The plant was commissioned in 1967 and has largest antibiotics fermentation facility with 44 nos. of 50 M³fermentors for Penicillin-G, Tetracycline, Oxytetracycline and Streptomycin and semi-synthetic Penicillins with required downstream recovery and purification equipments. It has so far produced 18 bulk antibiotics and intermediates. It also has large production capacity for manufacturing of formulations like tablets (765 million nos.) and capsules (390 million nos.).

It is endowed with the capacity to manufacture oral contraceptive and emergency pills and is one of five regular suppliers of these pills to Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.

A separate block for production of antiretroviral drugs to combat HIV/AIDS disease would be ready shortly. The production facilities are fully supported by well equipped Quality Control Department with Good Laboratory Practices apart from Formulations Development Research Laboratory. The plant has a modern Biological Treatment Plant (BTP) which treats the effluents of the factory and township. Based on the achievements for significant and measurable contribution towards development of clean technologies and innovative solutions for the environmental problems, the Rishikesh plant has received the `National Award for Prevention of Pollution – 1992’ from the President of India on 6 August, 1994.

The plant campus has a well developed township having 2700 flats. It also has facilities like market, bank, post office, hospital, schools, police post and religious places to cater the needs of its inhabitants.
