Hyderabad plant is located at Balanagar / Kukatpally, 4 kms. away from Begumpet International Airport, and heart of the city in Andhra Pradesh in 891 acres of land (3.61 million sq. mts) . The plant was commissioned in 1967 and manufactured wide range of 47 bulk synthetic drugs like Vitamins, Sulphas, Chloroquine, Methyl Dopa, Analgesics etc. from basic stages. It also has large production capacity for manufacturing of formulations like tablets (4000 million nos.), capsules (100 million nos.), syrups (600 kilo litres), injections (2 million nos.) and powders (600 metric tonnes). The production facilities were fully supported by Quality Control Department with Good Laboratory Practices. The plant also has well equipped Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) where its activities have been commercialized by treating the effluents of nearby industries.
An independent R & D Centre is one of the main strengths of this plant. It has three main divisions namely Chemistry, Biology including pharmacology & toxicology and Pilot plant divisions in addition to instrumentation section, glass fabrication workshop, animal house, large library and auditorium. A number of technologies for production of bulk drugs were developed and successfully implemented at main plant. About 4500 compounds

belonging to various structural types were synthesized and subjected to in-house primary & secondary screenings. The Centre is accredited with development of 3 promising new chemical entities, out of which one (IDPH-8261, non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory & anti-arthritic) has already completed Phase-III clinical trials.

Now, a “National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research (NIPER)” has been set-up on 19th October, 2007 at IDPL Research centre, offering training programmes in all disciplines relating to pharmacy to Graduate / Post Graduate students, thus providing pharma experts to the growing needs of Indian Pharma Industry.
Just 2 kms. away from the main plant, there is a well developed township with 858 flats. It also has facilities like market, bank, post office, schools, police post and religious places to cater the needs of its inhabitants. |
