The IDPL(TN) Ltd., Chennai is situated at Nandambakkam, off Guindy, on the Chennai–Bangalore Poonamallee high road, atop the Adyar River and is spread over 123 acres of land (0.50 million sq. mts). It was initially commissioned in 1965 predominantly as an engineering based company to manufacture surgical instruments. To improve its viability, it has made diversification of Detachable Scalpel Blades in 1975-76, set-up Fabrication shop in 1977-78, Formulations Division in 1978-79, Hospital equipments in 1992-93 and Aids & appliances in 1994-95. In March, 1994, this plant was converted into Subsidiary Unit of IDPL and incorporated (Company Registration No. 18-27005 of 1994 with Registrar of Companies, Tamil Nadu and having its Registered Office at Chennai). Subsequently, it was declared as an Implementing Agency under Assistance to Disabled Impaired Persons (ADIP) for southern States by Ministry of Welfare, Government of India for aids & appliances. It has large production capacity for manufacturing of formulations like tablets (900 million nos.) and capsules (200 million nos.) supported by well equipped Quality Control Department.
